Hey, I’m Collin Fearns

As a Raleigh native, I’ve seen our communities, city, and state grow and change. This in turn, brought new resources and opportunities that past leaders could have only imagined. But I’ve also seen firsthand that those benefits aren’t shared equally. Too often, civic investments flow to those who need it least, while existing communities are ignored and pushed to the side. I’ll fight to make sure progress lifts all of our neighbors and keep Raleigh and North Carolina a place where families can thrive, businesses can succeed, and neighborhoods stay connected.

Why I’m Running

Collin Fearns as a kid

When my parents took newborn Collin home from WakeMed, they didn’t pull into a suburban driveway. They pulled into the old Timberlake Apartments off Lake Woodard Drive, right here in District 38. I was one of four kids raised by a mother who worked herself to the bone, even though it wasn’t enough to stay afloat.

We kept our heads above water thanks to the kindness of our neighbors and government programs. Those programs are often debated in abstract terms by leaders who’ve never had to rely on them, but for my family, they were a lifeline in a rising tide.

Back then, my future wasn’t certain. I had a speech impediment and struggled to find rhythm while reading, hurdles that can define a life before it truly begins. But North Carolina chose to invest in me.

Thanks to the Wake County School System, weekly speech therapy, and daily reading assistance, I discovered my voice. After I graduated high school, college didn’t feel like an option, so I did what my mother did: I went to work. I took extra shifts, came in early, and stayed late, working my way up to being a general manager in Durham by the time I was 21.

Eventually, I took a leap and joined the Kamala Harris campaign in 2024, a role I will always be proud of, one that gave me a drive to stand tall for my neighbours and work for the betterment of our state.

I’m living proof that when North Carolina invests in its people, it pays off in a big way. My life taught me to work hard, fight for what’s right, and believe in the old toast of our state, North Carolina, where the weak grow strong, and the strong grow great.

I didn’t become a productive member of our community by accident though. Our state saw a little kid struggling and decided he was worth the effort.

That’s why I’m running. To make District 38 a place where every child, regardless of their background or setbacks, can reach their full potential once again.
